Gau-Algesheim is a city of 7000 inhabitants sited to the heart of the beautiful region of Rheinhessen.
The small town rich in tradition and sited between the cities of Mainz and of Bingen has kept his character of country in spite of a constant growth. Wine, fruit, asparaghi and cereals are typical agricultural products. The city is sited closely to the national road B 41 and there is a direct connection to motorway A 60 and to the railway trunk Mainz – Bingen – Koblenz and Mainz – Bad Kreuznach – Saarbrücken. The bell tower, 63 metres high, of the church “Holy Cosmas and Damian” in the historical centre is one of the symbols of Gau-Algesheim. With his baroque municipality the square of the market is, above all summer, a lovely place to take a drink or an ice cream. The square of the market is also a point of departure for different excursions and panoramic walks. For the appassionnati of swimming, Gau-Algesheim has also a great swimming centre with a magnificent sauna. In the historical centre you can find some taverns and in summer so called “Straußwirtschaften” where it is possible to have a nice time, enjoying wine and snacks. The most important holidays are the carnival, the fiesta of the festival in August, the holiday of the wine during the second weekend in October and the market of Christmas that always has place during the first Advent-weekend. The parking by the campers is opened all over the year. Gau - Algesheim has also different private pensions and a hotel. Many small and medium-sized enterprises have their seat to Gau-Algesheim. With his residential seductive zones and his businesses and supermarkets, Gau-Algesheim is a city favoured in the zone of the Rhein-Main.
